咸丰元宝：中国古代钱币之一。据资料记载：清咸丰年间（1851-1861年），太平天国农民起义发展迅猛，并在江苏南京建都，此时清政府赖以铸钱之用的滇铜（云南省出产的铜料），因道路阻断而无法运进北京。一方面是镇压起义急需大量的军饷开销，一方面是铸钱的原材料告缺，给清政府造成了严重的财政困难，最终迫使清政府自咸丰三年开始发行纸币和改铸大钱来弥补财政亏空。

此枚咸丰元宝当百铜钱，地刻精美纹饰，咸丰元宝是清代文宗咸丰年间铸。此枚咸丰元宝当百铜元，是圆形方孔铜质钱币，其形状外发天，内地法，取义精宏，为难得一见的珍品古钱。正面铸有楷书“咸丰元宝”四字，从上而下而右而左直读，背面上下写有汉文“当百”二字标明币值，左右用满文写宝泉局的名称。此币钱文，书意端庄隽美，笔划力道十足，笔锋鲜明犀利，笔划壮实规矩，如挺立青松，笔直带感。整体保存完好，铸造精美，钱体厚重，币面包浆浑厚，钱币十分精美。

古币收藏通常是面值越大价值越高，在古代制钱防伪技术并不高，虽有朝廷法律明文规定，不允许私铸，当是只要有大面值的钱币，就会产生巨大的利益，在利益面前会出现大量私铸钱币，很容易造成通货膨胀，在古代历来是钱不如铜贵的时候就熔毁去制作铜器贩卖，钱贵铜贱的时候，就会出现大量的私铸币，所以当百是不敢随便发行的，要发行也是权宜之计，短期使用，一旦发行民间私铸马上会造成严重的通货膨胀，想要找到一个平衡点是非常难得。这枚当百文极为稀少，流传至今品相依旧十分完美，俗话说旧器如新就是宝，这枚钱币可以说是镇馆级别非常的罕见。
